Sophy Hyde Park will close to the public today, March 27, and reopen to house University of Chicago Medical Center staff responding to the coronavirus pandemic.
The boutique property is offering its rooms free of charge to the University of Chicago Medical Center staff, welcoming doctors, nurses and other medical workers to the hotel and offering the property as a place to rest and relax between long shifts. The hospital is about one mile away from the hotel.
This offer is an extension of the community support and outreach that has been a hallmark of the hotel since it opened in 2018.
Most of the hotel’s 98 guest rooms will be available to hospital workers. The offer runs at least until April 17, 2020.
Current guests staying at the Sophy will be relocated to the nearby Hyatt Place Chicago South. Olympia Hotel Management manages both hotels.
