Hike, Bike & Kayak the Whites
The Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, conveniently located across the road from The Glen House, has 28 miles of trails for walking, hiking, and trail biking. The terrain, ranging from easy to moderate, caters to all skill levels. Families can enjoy a leisurely ride on hybrids, mountain bikes, or fat bikes, all available for rent on-site. For a more immersive experience, embark on full or half-day guided wildlife kayak tours, where there’s a chance to spot bald eagles, osprey, kingfishers, moose, and black bears. Thrill-seekers can opt for guided whitewater kayaking excursions, navigating Class II rapids with the guidance of ACA-certified guides.
The Mt. Washington Auto Road
The Glen House is adjacent to the legendary Mt. Washington Auto Road, which leads to the summit of the highest peak in the Northeast. At 6,288 feet, Mt. Washington offers views of close to 100 miles to the Atlantic Ocean and into neighboring Canada. It’s the most famous mountain drive east of the Rockies and America’s oldest man-made attraction. The eight-mile road opened in 1861, and there is a self-drive option and guided van tours that stop at scenic spots along the way. Contact Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center for reservations.
